This 20 minute meditation timer is set to 20:00 with a light interval bell every 5 minutes, at 5, 10 and 15 minutes. A singing bowl opens and closes the sit. Press Begin to start; it is free and works in any modern browser.

What Is a 20 Minute Meditation Timer?

Twenty minutes is a classic full sit, used in many mindfulness courses and in Transcendental Meditation. A 20 minute meditation timer with interval bells breaks the time into four quarters, so a wandering mind has regular chances to return. It runs on the same engine as our online meditation timer.

How to Use the 20 Minute Meditation Timer

Press Begin and the bowl opens the sit at once. A light chime rings at 5, 10 and 15 minutes; three bowl strikes close at 20. Prefer a single check-in? Choose Halfway in the Interval tab.

Posture for a Longer Sit

  • Sit on a chair with both feet flat, or on a cushion with your knees lower than your hips.
  • Keep the spine upright but not stiff.
  • Rest your hands on your thighs or in your lap.
  • Use each interval bell to release tension in the face, shoulders and hands.

Building Up to 20 Minutes

If twenty minutes feels long, split it: two ten-minute sits a day give many of the same benefits. When you are ready, the interval bells make one longer sit easier. More spacing options are on the meditation timer with interval bells page.

20 Minute Meditation Timer FAQ

How many interval bells ring in 20 minutes?

Three light chimes, at 5, 10 and 15 minutes. The bell at 20 minutes is the closing bowl.

Can I use every 10 minutes instead?

Yes. Choose Every 10m in the Interval tab and a single chime rings at 10 minutes.

Why is 20 minutes a common length?

It is long enough for a deep settle and short enough to do daily. Many courses, including mindfulness programs, use sits of about twenty minutes.

What if I feel sleepy?

Sit more upright, open your eyes slightly, and use each interval bell as a cue to take one fuller breath.
