This 5 minute meditation timer is already set to 5:00. Press Begin and a singing bowl opens the sit straight away. Five minutes later three soft strikes bring you back. It is free, runs in your browser and needs no sign-up.

What Is a 5 Minute Meditation Timer?

A 5 minute meditation timer holds a short, clear container for practice: one bell to begin and three to close. Five minutes is short enough to fit between meetings and long enough to notice the breath slow down. It is part of our free meditation timer online, so every setting works the same way.

How to Use the 5 Minute Meditation Timer

  1. Sit or stand comfortably. A chair is fine.
  2. Press Begin. The opening bell rings at once, and you can let your shoulders drop as it fades.
  3. Follow three slow breaths, then let the breath find its own pace.
  4. When the closing bells ring, take one more breath before you move.

A 5 Minute Practice, Step by Step

Minute 1 · Arrive

Notice where your body touches the chair or floor. Let your gaze soften or close your eyes.

Minutes 2–4 · Breathe

Rest attention on the breath at the belly or nostrils. When thoughts pull you away, notice and return.

Minute 5 · Close

Widen your attention to the sounds around you. Let the bells mark the end.

When a Five Minute Sit Works Best

  • Before a meeting or an exam
  • After lunch, when energy dips
  • First thing in the morning, before your phone
  • As a reset after a stressful call

When five minutes starts to feel easy, move up to the 10 minute meditation timer.

5 Minute Meditation Timer FAQ

Is 5 minutes of meditation worth it?

Yes. A short daily sit builds the habit, and many people notice they feel calmer after just a few minutes of focused breathing.

Can I add a halfway bell to five minutes?

You can. Switch to the Interval tab and choose Halfway, and a light chime rings at 2:30.

Does the timer work at my desk without headphones?

Yes. Lower the Sound slider for a quieter bell, or set it to zero and watch for the soft glow on the digits instead.

What should I do after the bells ring?

Stay still for one more breath before you open your eyes or reach for your phone. It helps the calm carry into the next task.
