This singing bowl timer opens and closes your meditation with a warm, synthesized bowl tone and marks the halfway point with a light chime. It opens at 10 minutes; choose anything from 1 to 60. Press Begin to start; it is free and needs no app.
What Is a Singing Bowl Timer?
A singing bowl timer uses the sound of a bowl to mark the beginning and end of meditation. The long, slowly fading tone is a gentle way to enter and leave a sit, much softer than a phone alarm. This page is our online meditation timer set up for bowl sounds.
How the Singing Bowl Sound Is Made
The bowl is synthesized live in your browser. It combines a warm fundamental near G3 (196 Hz) with the uneven overtones of a real bowl, and each tone is doubled with a tiny detune. That detune creates the slow "wah-wah" beating you hear from a struck bowl. Each strike fades over about nine seconds.
Because nothing is downloaded, the timer starts instantly and sounds the same on every device.
How to Use the Singing Bowl Timer
- Pick a length with the slider or presets.
- Press Begin. One bowl strike opens the sit right away.
- A lighter chime marks the halfway point.
- Three bowl strikes, four seconds apart, close the session.
Have a recording of your own bowl? Pick Custom… in the Bell menu under Settings. It plays once at the start and once at the end.
Listening Practice With a Singing Bowl Timer
Try following the closing bowl until you can no longer hear it. That moment where sound turns into silence is a simple and effective focus point. For a longer sit with more bells, use the meditation timer with interval bells.
Singing Bowl Timer FAQ
Is this a recording of a real singing bowl?
No. The tone is synthesized in your browser to resemble a bowl, so it loads instantly and needs no audio files.
How many times does the bowl ring at the end?
Three times, about four seconds apart, so you can surface slowly.
Can I use a different bowl sound?
Yes. Pick Custom… in the Bell menu under Settings and choose an audio file. It stays on your device and is forgotten when you reload.
Can I make the bowl quieter?
Yes. Use the Sound slider in Settings. Your volume is saved for next time.
